Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO’s)
Stormwater discharges are often managed with the use of control structures known as CSOs. These structures are designed to limit stormwater flows to treatment plants by diverting a portion of the flows to directly to riverine or coastal receiving waters.
CSOs are designed to function during periods of high flow, thereby protecting property and facilities upstream of the structures from flooding and limiting treatment plant flows. Since the use of CSOs can have a negative environmental impact it is important to design these structures to limit the amount of waste material that is carried back into the environment without treatment.
CFD Solutions Ltd uses CFD to improve the performance of existing CSO structures and to design innovative new designs. The results shown on here are from a study that involved the largest CSO located beneath Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic.
